Wooden churches could be described as a masterpiece of Slovak folk art. They are without a unique part of our cultural heritage. In Slovakia from more than 300 original objects preserved to this day, about 60 of sacral buildings. These buildings were on the one hand a sign of transience and “smallness” of man,
on the other hand expressed steadfast and firm faith in God, which was often in the past the only certainty. Except that their building was used exclusively wood, boast even one unique feature – their construction cannot be used by a single metal nail!
In the vicinity of our hotel there are five interesting objects that are definitely worth seeing. They are Roman Catholic (EA) church in Stary Smokovec (7 km), RC church in Dolny Smokovec (9 km), RC church in Tatrnska Kotlina (11 km), a unique Protestant Evangelical church in Kezmarok that is on the UNESCO list (16 km) and RC church in Tatranska Javorina (29 km).
All these churches still serve their purpose. So if you would like to look at their interiors, visit them during worship – and you will have some time left for a brief tour.
