The only Calvary in High Tatras is located in Stary Smokovec. At the outset, let me quote the curator, director of the gallery Anna Ondrušeková “This Calvary is not classic, is artistic expression of artists. Is an expression of man’s relation to events and personality of Jesus Christ.
It expresses the experience of carrying the cross in his life, understanding the meaning of suffering, sacrifice and liberating hope that purify and lift up.” The creators of individual stops are professional artists – sculptors from both sides of the Tatras. They created Calvary as a tribute to our great mountains. Carvings were updated gradually since 2010 till the finalization in 2013.
