Exposition of Tatra nature is hold as a botanical garden. It is located about 5 minutes walk from the main building of the Tatra National Park (TANAP) museum. Unlike the mentioned museum (which is open whole year) botanical gars opens seasonally.
Museum of the Tatra National Park (also known as the Museum of TANAP) has been open to its visitors since 1959. It has a typical shape of a triangle that rises to the high Tatra peak, which fits into the surrounding Tatra Mountains.
The museum is trying to apprise its visitors about the Tatra nature – animal and plant species,
Lomnicky Peak is one of the most beautiful and the most famous peaks in High Tatras. Our Polish neighbours called him “King of the Tatras” and until 1837, it was descended from the old German colonizers considered as the highest peak. This place was declared as a national nature reservation (NNR), so it is area with the highest degree of protection. Pramenisko belongs to the list of 72 nationally important wetlands. For its uniqueness was also included in the network of major European Natura 2000 habitats in the category mountain and foothill riparian forests. (more…)
Ski museum is a private museum focusing on the history and development of a wide range of winter sports (and not just the traditional ones) in the High Tatras from their earliest beginnings to the end of World War II. The museum was opened in 05/2013. Museum is located in Tatranska Lomnica, near the Tatra railway station and is also accessible from the main road.
At first it might seem that this trail is perhaps misplaced here in the Tatra Mountains. But Astronomical nature trail has its place here, especially because the Stara Lesna is an established Astronomical Institute, which operates its observatories at Skalnate Pleso and Lomnicky Peak.
Nature trail is located in the village of Stary Smokovec. Originally it had seven information panels and should begin at the bus station and ends in downtown Stary Smokovec, near the information center. Panel No. 1 t.č. (01/2013) unfortunately doesn’t exist anymore … (more…)
Slovakia is a queen of “mineral waters”. Places where natural mineral water springs are numerous in our area, some are well-known through some still wit to be discovered, some forgotten and some lost.
The only Calvary in High Tatras is located in Stary Smokovec. At the outset, let me quote the curator, director of the gallery Anna Ondrušeková “This Calvary is not classic, is artistic expression of artists. Is an expression of man’s relation to events and personality of Jesus Christ.
If you found Smokovec acidulous water and you have some time to watch Old Smokovec from above, you can follow path further towards the viewt. It’s a place where you will be fine with your children. Although the path leads up the hill, but what would you expect in the Tatras :),(more…)
